just adding more padding.

Kabooti Cushion Review
A firm, supportive seat cushion with a center cutout — and the cushion
that allowed me to resume using a recumbent exercise bike after
conventional cushions hadn’t solved the problem.

The wide seat of a recumbent exercise bike supports the entire
Kabooti while its center cutout provides clearance where I need it.
I’ve used the Kabooti during a long car ride, in my office chair,
and on a recumbent exercise bike. What makes it useful to me isn’t
simply that it makes a seat softer.
Its cutout creates actual clearance around the tailbone. That
distinction became particularly important on a recumbent bike,
where ordinary pillows and cushions simply conformed to the raised
center section of the seat.
- Useful center cutout for tailbone clearance
- Works well for me during extended sitting
- Fits wide recumbent exercise-bike seats
- Works in cars, trucks, and office chairs
- Firm and supportive rather than overly soft
- Good grip while remaining easy to reposition
An Unexpected Use
Why a Recumbent Bike Changed My Opinion of the Cushion
I use a recumbent exercise bike, but the seats on the bikes available
to me have a raised center section that aggravated my tailbone badly
enough that I eventually stopped using them.
I tried an ordinary pillow and other cushions. They added padding,
but they didn’t remove the pressure — they simply conformed to the
same raised portion of the seat.
The Kabooti worked differently. Because of the cutout, I could position
it so the problem area had clearance rather than simply another layer
of padding beneath it.
That allowed me to start using a recumbent bike again.
Real-World Uses
Where I’ve Found It Useful
Recumbent Bikes
The most important use for me. A wide recumbent-bike seat can
support the whole cushion while the center cutout provides clearance.
Cars & Trucks
I was comfortable using the Kabooti during a long car ride. The
cushion stays in place well without being difficult to reposition.
Office Chairs
It works well in my office chair and remains comfortable during
extended periods of sitting without making me excessively hot.
Wheelchairs
The size and design also make it potentially suitable for wide
wheelchair seats where additional support and center clearance are
useful.
Why the Cutout Matters
More Padding Isn’t Always the Answer
One of the more useful lessons from trying this cushion was that
softness and pressure relief aren’t necessarily the same thing.
A conventional cushion can make a hard seat softer while still
transmitting pressure from the shape underneath it.
The Kabooti’s cutout gives you room to position the sensitive area
over actual clearance, while the surrounding cushion continues to
provide support.
For my particular use, that has been much more effective than simply
sitting on a thicker pillow.
My Assessment
What I Like — and What I Don’t
What I Like
- Useful tailbone clearance
- Comfortable for extended periods
- Firm, stable support
- Works in several different types of seats
- Good grip without being hard to adjust
- Breathability has been good for me
- Good value for the price
Things to Consider
- It’s considerably firmer than a soft pillow
- The center indentation could be wider
- Positioning matters for getting the full benefit
- It won’t work on a narrow conventional bicycle saddle
